So-so book – Maisie Dobbs, the WWI nurse turned private investigator, discovers the murders of 3 young women are linked – she finds a white feather at each of the scenes. The women were part of the “Order of the White Feather” and handed out white feathers to men who were not in uniform – the white feather being a sign of cowardice. Many men joined up because of them, and went to their deaths. The murderer ended up being Mrs. Willis, the head housekeeper of Joseph Waite, whose daughter, Charlotte, started her and her friends – the 3 that were murdered – into handing out feathers. Charlotte was to be the next victim but Maisie saved the day. The editing was horrible in the book! Double words, etc.
